Importance of Care

String instruments require precise setup for ease of playing and optimal tone production. This is true for instruments in any price range. Most of the adjustments must be done by an experienced repair person. Once an instrument is adjusted properly, the player will recognize when the setup changes and the instrument becomes harder to play. This is generally a warning sign that something has gone wrong and a repair professional should be consulted.

The ongoing maintenance of your instrument and bow are important to keep them in top playing condition. In addition to the satisfaction of playing an instrument that feels and sounds right, many expensive repairs can be avoided by following a few simple practices and preventative measures. We recommend the following basic guidelines for instrument and bow care, including transportation and storage. Unless specified, these recommendations apply to all stringed instruments (violin, viola, cello, or bass).
